The Boudoir Session Start To Finish: How To Prepare For Your Shoot

You’ve got your session booked, or maybe you are thinking about a session and you are wondering what a boudoir session start to finish looks like? You are not alone, in fact, this is a question I get a lot. We like to provide our clients with enough information to make sure they feel prepared and ready on shoot day. So instead of feeling nervous, our clients arrive at the studio excited and ready to go. Session day takes 3-4 hours. And you are asking “What are we doing in those 3-4 hours?”

The First Step: The Beauty Chair!

When you first arrive, you’ll get introduced to our Hair and Makeup Artist. She’ll get you into your beautiful satin luxury robe and seated into our beauty chair. We’ll go over what makeup style you’d like as well as hair. There is communication the entire time because our goal is comfort. This process can take up to 90 minutes.

The Second Step: The Lingerie!

I’ll set out some items from the Studio closet in our dressing area that I think would be fabulous for you! We’ll also go through what you’ve brought with you. Our studio has specific colors so we always want to make sure that what you were not only compliments YOU but the studio colors as well to create the best images. This process can take up to 20 minutes.

The Final Step: The Shoot!

It’s shoot time! The moment you’ve been waiting for. Our Hair and Makeup Artist typically stays through the whole session and acts as a second pair of eyes when it comes to shooting. We’ll start off with an easy pose that will help you get comfortable. Don’t worry if you don’t know how to pose. I will show you every pose you are going to do, and this is where the entertainment comes in because I’m an absolute hoot getting in and out of poses – including grunting. It’s okay, you can laugh – we do every time! I show you what to do with your hands and your face as well. That is often the biggest concern: What do I do with my hands/face? This process can take up to 90 minutes.

Now you’ve done the shoot, what next? 

Your in-person viewing and ordering session will take place a week from your session.

The viewing takes up to 45 minutes.  You’ll get to see your full gallery at this time which is often between 60-80 retouched images. We pre-design your albums for you so that you don’t have to fret about that. Depending on the collection you choose, your album can have anywhere from 20 images in it to 40 images. Albums and Metal Wall Art can take up to 4 weeks. Our albums are handcrafted and take time to create.
