Hey there, gorgeous! So, you’re thinking about getting a spray tan before your boudoir shoot? Hold up a sec! Before you bronze that beautiful body, let’s chat about why spray tans for boudoir might not be the best idea.
As a St. Louis Boudoir photographer, I’ve seen it all – from Oompa Loompa orange disasters to streaky leg situations that’ll make you cringe. And don’t even get me started on the furniture stains!
Trust me, nothing kills the sexy vibe quite like leaving behind a you-shaped silhouette on our bed. Stick around as we spill the tea on why going au naturel might just be your best bet for those sultry shots.
Should you tan before taking boudoir photos?
You might be tempted to get that sun-kissed glow before you boudoir shoot, but pump the brakes! While a tan can boost your confidence, it’s not always picture-perfect. Think about it: do you really want to risk looking like a streaky, orange mess in your sultry shots? Yikes!
Natural is beautiful
As your photographer, I want to capture the real you. Plus, those awkward tan lines? Not so sexy when you’re trying to rock that lacy lingerie. And, they do not photoshop out well either.
Furniture faux pas
Here’s a behind-the-scenes secret: spray tans can transfer onto studio furniture. Imagine leaving your mark in our studio – and not in a good way! Save yourself (and me) and stick to your natural skin tone.
Remember, boudoir is all about embracing your authentic self. You’re gorgeous just the way you are, so skip the tan and let your true beauty shine!
Spray Tan vs Self Tanner vs Sun Tan
You want to get a tan anyways. So, when it comes to getting that sun-kissed glow, you’ve got options – right? But which one is right for you? Let’s break down the options:
Spray Tan
You are in and out in minutes, and voila! Instant bronze. But follow your spray tanners instructions very carefully – it can transfer onto clothes and furniture. Plus, if you don’t pick the right spray tanner there is the risk of looking a bit… orange.
If you are set on getting a spray tanner, our very own Hair and Makeup Artist, Alexis, does spray tans. And she knows the risks that come with it in the world of photography and doesn’t leave you looking orange!
Self Tanner
DIY at home? Sounds great, right? Well, until you end up with streaky legs and stained palms. If you are going to tan, please, do not do this one. Just do yourself a favor and take our advice.
Sun Tan
The OG method. Nothing beats the natural warmth, but let’s face it – it’s not exactly skin-friendly. Plus, those tan lines? Not ideal. However, if you are careful to avoid tan lines, this can be such a beautiful option.
Remember, whichever route you choose, timing is everything. You want to look fabulous, not like you’ve had a tanning mishap!
Do I recommend getting sun before the photoshoot?
Listen up, sun-seekers! While a golden glow might seem tempting, I’d advice against hitting the beach or tanning bed right before your boudoir session. Here’s why:
Natural isn’t always better
Sure, a natural tan sounds great, but it comes with risks. Uneven tanning, awkward tan lines, or worse – a sunburn! Nobody wants to pose with lobster-red skin or peeling shoulders!
Time is of the essence
Timing a perfect tan is tricky. Too late, and it might fade. Too close, and you risk being sore or having that “freshly tanned” look that doesn’t always translate well in photos.
Safety first
Let’s be real – excessive sun exposure isn’t great for your skin. Instead of risking damage, why not embrace your natural skin tone? Trust me, it’s beautiful as is, and we can always enhance your glow with expert lighting and post-session editing.
Don’t do self-tanner!
I’ve said earlier and I’ll say it again: Don’t do self-tanner. We get it – you want that sun-kissed glow for your boudoir shoot. But trust me, self-tanner is not your friend here. You might end up looking like an orange-tinted disaster rather than a bronzed goddess. Nobody wants streaky legs or patchy arms in their photos, right?
Instead, embrace your natural skin tone. It’s uniquely beautiful, and that’s what boudoir is all about – celebrating you, just as you are.
Final thoughts on spray tans for boudoir photoshoots
Let’s be real – tanning before your boudoir shoot might seem like a good idea, but it’s often more trouble than it’s worth. You want to feel confident and sexy, not worried about streaky skin or staining items in the studio.
Remember, your natural skin tone is beautiful as-is. Ultimately, the most important thing is feeling comfortable in your own skin.
So while you might be tempted to get that sun-kissed glow, it’s probably best to embrace your natural skin tone for your boudoir session. Trust me, you’ll thank yourself later when your not orange or have funky tan lines in your shots.
